About Horticulture Education at Green Chimneys School
IMG_1818An integrated approach to horticulture and gardening connects plants to human health and personal well-being, and promotes social and life skills that enhance the personal development of students. Educational School Gardens at two campuses in Putnam County, NY,  play an important role in the lives of Green Chimneys students. Practical lessons in the garden enhance and reinforce theoretical learning in the classroom. Students gain respect for nature, manual work, individuals, and the community and have opportunities to grow plants, harvest vegetables, and prepare meals using produce out of the garden.
